I am not a sports writer, all of you know that. The current scandals that involve Lance Armstrong and Manti Te'o have caused me to get in the game. Realism the philosophy that I am trying to practice and have created to share to other is a system of freedoms. That freedom also translate to what we can do to our bodies. First, I hate the abortion movement over 60 million human beings destroyed before they could have even drawn a breath, monstrous! Yet I do believe that it is not the governments duty or responsibility to regulate morals or vices. Sure regulate what happens when you hurt someone else because of the vice you participate in, but not the ability to perform the vice or moral behavior. In this context I could care less what Lance Armstrong did to himself to win or Manti did to make himself more motivated to play.
What we are forgetting is that these "games" that these two men played are for our entertainment. For years Lance Armstrong brought millions of dollars into our economy and into the coffers of his charity Livestrong. The amazing feats like seven consecutive Tours even while under performance enhancing drugs is super human. Lance still had to put in the grueling training and sacrifice his body for the sport. Thousands maybe millions of mile on that seat doctors say make a man impotent. For what, to win? No to be a gladiator. To hear the crowds yelling his name and see his face on a box of cereal. For the glory, for stardom, values that Americans see as noble. Lance made you laugh and cry and cheer. Lance was our champion and he would not have been if he didn't do everything he could to win, for us.
We are partially responsible for Lance, Manti, remember the balloon boy. The way our society views sports and men and women who are successful as demigods, is what drives our athletes to dope. I really don't care that adult men and women dope to win. Forget regulations and rules for doping. Let's see where the human body goes with the help for science. No one is putting a gun to the heads of these people to be involved in these pursuits. Each one of them knows the pain and agony that an elite competitor has to go through and accepts it. They of their own free will sign on the dotted line to do what they can to win? No to entertain US.
