I have given up trying to understand the middle eastern mind. Jackie Chan last year made an outrageous statement that I am reevaluating. Jackie Chan when asked what he thought about democracy for China he stated, "Some people just can't be free","They need an iron hand". For a few weeks he was called every sort of name short of vulgarities. I think he was on to something and I am realizing his view of some cultures fit the Arabic culture. When you look historically at the governments and rulers that were effective in controlling the masses, they were Totalitarian rulers or monarchs. Every time they went easy on the population and tried to implement any sort of self rule, the really radical and maniacal factions rose up.
My question is why does the entire world be democratic? Why does the United States have to keep exporting what we have here to a world and culture that rejects it? The world is imperfect and maybe there are just individuals that have to live under tyranny and fear because the have no ability to govern themselves. Look even in Russia there are millions of people calling for the return of the Soviet Union. These people at least are fully aware that they are sheep and need to be led. They see no hope in individuality or independence. These peoples fear self reliance and self sufficiency. There is a peace in group think and culture. True freedom is extremely risky.
As a powerful force for freedom America needs to come to the human conclusion that our system is unique and not one size fits all. The age of democracy and freedom for all is dead. We have the living examples in the countries effected by the Arab spring, that once these iron fisted rulers are deposed, the population begs for complete oppression through a religiously dominant ruler who has little tolerance for free will. Some people just can't be free.
